Briar Hill Midwives

As promised here is a little update on the expansion of our family! In case you haven’t already heard, our little bundle of joy decided to come early and made HIS arrival on January 27th, 2009 at 7 pm, a full 2 weeks early! We are very pleased to welcome Luca to our family!! He came in weighing 7 lbs 4 oz and was 20 inches long.

Christmas morning was full of excitement as I awoke at 5:30 am to my water breaking!! Early labor started shortly after but nothing fast or furious. I labored with contractions about 10-15 minutes apart for the next 36 hours. We labored at home which was amazing because I able to sleep, watch movies (The Hangover was one of them!!) eat home cooked food, and soak in my tub. At about 4 in the morning on the 27th things started to pick up and I was having contractions every 2-5 minutes. The midwives were called and they got to the house at about 5 am. Luca continued to be stubborn and we labored at that pace for another 12 hours. At about 5 pm on the 27th I was fully dilated and it was time to get in the tub for the water birth we had planned for. Two hours of pushing and we had our beautiful baby boy!! Natural childbirth is truly empowering! It was the hardest but most rewarding thing I have ever accomplished. It was also an amazing feeling having kept his sex a secret!!

We are cozied up at home and we are doing great!! Luca is a champ at nursing and is super alert! We are getting used to Dad being at the office all day while we hang out at home and sleep as much as possible!
